Laptop Policy
UPDATE?
The Ayer Library has laptop computers available for public use. These laptops are reserved for use by teen and young adult patrons. Adults may use these laptops at the discretion of the staff. Laptops are to only be used within the library.
In order to use the laptops patrons must be in good standing with the library and not have fines over $10.00. Before use patrons must sign the Laptop Policy Agreement, as well as have an adult (18+) sign it. This is so that they understand that any and all damage done to the laptop is their responsibility. A computer is considered damaged when the repairs are beyond the staffs capabilities to fix. If the laptop is damaged beyond repair the patron is responsible for the replacement cost of $250.
Laptops will be checked-out to patrons for use after all of the desktops have been filled. A library card must be presented at check-out. Laptops are not to leave the building and must be returned to the circulation desk five minutes before closing.
The laptops usage will follow the same rules as those of the desktop computers found in the Young Adult and Children’s rooms.
All computers are reserved for homework use first. If a child comes in to do homework and all computers are full then a child who’s not doing homework will be asked to stop using the computer.
A 15 minute limit may be placed on computer if there are many children waiting to use the computers.
If a child is found to have tampered with or is viewing inappropriate content on the computer, they may be asked to leave the building and have their computer privileges revoked.
The library staff reserves to the right to determine inappropriate content, and monitor the behavior of children on the computers.
Other issues involving computers may arise in which case the Patron Internet Policy may be referred to.
