Online Resources

All of the resources listed below are free to patrons with Ayer Library cards. For most sites, you will be asked to enter your library card number (14 digits, no spaces). This may be called a "user name," "barcode," or "log-in ID."* To go to any of the following websites, just click on the image associated with the website. 

*If you are asked to enter a password or PIN, use the same one you use for your library account. If you do not yet have a password for your library account, just give us a call at 978-772-8250 and we'll take care of it for you!

Gale Databases
Find information on a wide range of topics through Gale databases.
These databases are organized by subject and age-level. Browse through the list of available databases or search by subject (click the "Resources by Subject" tab at the top of the page). 

Genealogy: Ancestry Library Edition
Research your family history through census, land, military, and birth records. There are billions of records and documents at your disposal. This database is accessible through Ayer Library computers only.

A digital collection of past issues of newspapers from Northeastern states including
local papers like the Lowell Sun, the Fitchburg Sentinel, and the Boston Globe

 The Boston Globe
 Full text of The Boston Globe from 1980-present.

 The New York Times
 Full text of The New York Times from 1985-present,
 searchable as a standalone file.

 InfoTrac Newsstand
 Regional, national, and international newspapers.


Niche Academy is an online service that offers tutorials on popular websites and applications like, GALE's Academic OneFile, various social media outlets, and OverDrive/Libby.

 Digital Sanborn Maps
 A digital collection of Massachusetts town maps spanning   the years 1867 to 1970. 

Consumer Reports Online 
Get access to expert and unbiased ratings of over 5,000 products, plus expert buying advice, product comparisons, and user reviews. 
When logging in, your "Patron ID" is your library card barcode number.

Cars: AutoMate
contains do-it-yourself repair and maintenance information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles. When logging in, your "Patron ID" is your library card barcode number. 


Books: NoveList
Database devoted to book recommendations based on interest, subject, title, author and reading level. When logging in, your "Patron ID" is your library card barcode number.
